Houbara Breeding

Intensive programs for breeding and establishing Houbara bustards in natural reserves in Dubai

About the Section

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, have shown great interest in the Houbara bustard through intensive programs for breeding and establishing them in natural reserves in Dubai, after they were on the verge of extinction.

Production at H3 Falcon Reserve is based on in-depth genetic research and hereditary improvement studies, to increase Houbara bird production in Dubai reserves. Breeding requires strong scientific effort to preserve the genetic characteristics of this bird and enhance research into its behaviors.

Specialists and researchers supervise the mating stages, egg collection, and transfer to prepared sections suitable for their nature; for intensive care, providing the food and medicine required for formation stages and beyond.

To preserve these bird species and limit their extinction, the reserve management has provided vast areas prepared for nature, to receive mating and breeding stages, and benefit from the warmth of the climate.

The Houbara is a migratory bird that passes through the UAE and the Arabian Peninsula during migration. It is also considered a symbol of the deserts; a bird that lives across thousands of kilometers and in several countries around the world.
